Credit Transfer Guide
Two of the most important – and most difficult – aspects of studying abroad are finding the right courses to keep you on track for timely graduation, and ensuring the courses you choose will actually transfer back to your home university!
Fortunately, we make it easy to fit your study abroad experience into your graduation timeline and ensure your credits will transfer with the resources below. First, we’ll explain how to obtain approval from your home university to participate in a LION program. Then, you can use our proposed course equivalency tool to identify the courses you need and start a conversation with a LION advisor. Our advisors will also work with you to obtain the necessary approval from your home institution.

Your application to a LION program will involve the following five simple steps.
A. Student Needs Assessment
Our dedicated staff will speak with you and ask you questions to determine your goals and needs.
B. Customized Recommendation
Our team of advisors and consultants will review your assessment and create a customized recommendation for which program and courses will best satisfy your individual needs.
C. Program Application
Once you have selected a program and courses, we’ll ask you to complete a formal application to the program which will give us the information we need to verify your eligibility to participate in the program.
D. Home School Verification
Our team of experts will review your application and will help you verify that you are approved to participate in the program and that your courses will transfer. This will involve getting some paperwork signed by your home institution.
E. Application Results
Finally, we will let you know if you have been accepted into the program you applied to. If you have, your seats in the coursework you applied for will be confirmed at this time. If you have not been approved, we will explain why and, if possible, let you know if there is anything you can do to modify your application.
How to Apply at your Home School
Usually, there are two steps you must complete at your home university before participating in a LION program.
A. Home School Verification
When you apply to one of our programs, we’ll give you a simple form to fill out and take to your study abroad or academic advisor. This form will ask them to confirm that you are allowed to participate in the program and will also ask them to provide some information we need to ensure your credits will transfer. The entire process is very simple, and you’ll have a signed document from your advisor confirming you are allowed to study in the LION program so you never have to worry about credit transfer.
B. Course Equivalency Approval
After you have confirmed you are allowed to study in a LION program, you still need to make sure that the courses you want to take are approved. While our course equivalencies included on this page can be used a guide, you still need to follow the procedures of your home school.
Proposed Course Equivalencies
We understand that before you take the step of applying for a program, you want to see what courses you can take in the program. This section contains proposed course equivalencies for LION member university coursework at various North American colleges and universities. These are provided as a resource to help students understand what courses they may be able to transfer to their degree-granting institution.
Please note that your eligibility to take these courses and their approval to transfer can only be guaranteed by your home institution. These proposed equivalencies could be inaccurate or could be true for some students, but not others. Please use this information to identify the courses you may want to take and then confirm that they are approved for transfer by talking to an academic or departmental advisor at your home school. Remember, you must still follow the credit-transfer application procedures required by your home school.
