Dr. Giuseppe Romano

Education:Ph.D. – University of Rome Torvergata

Home Institution: Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Teaching:Electrical Engineering, Calculus

Biography:

After getting my PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Rome Tor Vergata, I joined MIT as postdoctoral scholar in Prof. Jeffrey Grossman’s group. Since Nov. 2014, I am with the S3TEC center as a Research Scientist and hold a secondary appointment at Boston College, working with Prof. David Broido. I am the recipient of the 2014/2015 Translational Fellowship within the MIT Innovation Initiative.

My broad research interest is multiscale energy transport in materials for energy harvesting. I am currently focusing on the development of models for thermal transport in nanostructured materials for thermoelectrics. The ultimate goal of the multiscale approach is to bridge the discrete description of matter (i.e. atoms) with continuum models, in order to develop computationally affordable yet accurate physical simulations. My research is strongly supported by coding in-house computer programs.
